Logo parameters

As you may have already known, logos and other items are being used for various purposes: print, web and other. People join design contests and submit designs or they get an order to make a design. Before starting making a logo, the customer should mention where they are going to use their future logo. If not, then the designer has to ask him about that. It actually means a lot – it gives you a reference of what kind of logo it has to be.

Logo for a web

The first thing what most of the logos are used for is a website. So if a logo has to be made for a website only, then you have lots of possibilities. You can make any kind of logo you want -  it could be a plain solid colour logo or a 3d logo, which is full of various effects, has reflection, dozens of gradients, shadows and whatever you like because it’s a website and there are like no limits for a logo. You can see this logo as an example.

Parameters for printing

Many companies want to have business cards with their logo on them. If you make a logo for print or a business card, the first thing you have to do is set your colours to CMYK. This is how you can do this:  go to File -> Document Color Mode -> CMYK color. You might want to know what the CMYK  means, so it is short for Cyan, Magneta, Yellow, Key (black) colours. Next, you shouldn’t use reflections and too many effects. You should keep the gradients limited  because that will increase in the cost for printing but that if that is not that necessary then you can have a beautiful business cards as many people do. In other words, you should not make anything similar to design described above because that will increase in the cost for printing. The size of a business card is 3.5 by 2 inches, this is a suggested size as these are the common dimensions. I’ve included a sample of a modern style business card, see it below!
