2 millions a lot of money, no doubt, but the final mark isn’t what cost a lot, it’s the research and development.

If you had a company earning 5 billion dollars a year, your telling me you wouldn’t spend a measly 2 million getting your branding right?

Danny, a logo is the face of an entity other than biological. Some may be ugly or good looking, depends on the skill and insight of the designer. The rest is marketing, that’s where the name , product or service is linked with the image (logo) and implanted in the human long term memory.

The millions payed are not for the logo, are for the new identity they are getting and marketing it. This is why the big bucks are made by the advertising/marketing companies.

Yes, one of such logos is “Nike”. Actually the target logo doesn’t really appeal to me. But I am sure it is very effective. If I made such logo, I guess I would charge like $25 just like many other people. Maybe that’s because of my personal issues, I just don’t ask too much for a thing that I make too quick or too easy. No offence to Target logo, it’s a benefit to have such logo, but I wouldn’t charge much for it. That’s my opinion.

I just started studying in designing logos myself so I honestly don’t know what it takes. I do know that life span is one of the factors a designer must work in on the costs. Gotta ask yourself, “How much would this bring in for the customer?”. Let me ask you this, if you were the designer for the Target logo, how much would you charge? Ive heard alot of stories about logos being designed for 35 bucks and now they have become major successful logos for major corporations.

Hey Danny, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, the designer’s experience and researches have to be well valued. Sometimes it takes really long time to think of a simple design that would be attractive, and of course that costs much for the customer. But how much do you think a man should do to get let’s say $300.000 for a logo? It is just much of money and it is not for me I guess since I am not famous or so. The designers might deserve that, but ok, that sounds incredible.

I disagree, It is not a waste of money at all. Money well spent especially if you take into account of the designer’s experience, the amount of research the designer or firm did, the life span of a logo and the impression it leaves on a potential customer. The “Starz” and Pepsi logo are recognizable to anyone that sees it. The fact that millions of people recognize it means that its imbedded in their mind. Once a designer has achieved those results, I consider that a successful design, no matter how simple or how “easy” it looks.

ie: Target logo, Apple logo or NOS logo.
